GEORGIE FOUND A HOME AND BECAME A POSTER CAT

9/17/04:

Would you turn a member of your family out in the cold?  You wouldn't, but someone did.  After his family abandoned him to the streets, this poor guy with absolutely no survival skills had to struggle desperately just to survive.  Lucky for him, he eventually found the home of a compassionate lady.

Hungry, afraid and alone, he approached his first decent meal very tentatively.  Shortly thereafter, on a very cold, rainy day, the lady was able to coax him into the garage.  She made up a little bed for him and he doesn't want to leave it.  His body was one big scab from sores caused by flea bites, mosquito bites, ear mites and every other parasite known to cat.  His ear flap is severely damaged, but to what extent his hearing has been affected is not yet known.

He is the poster cat for what happens to that cute little kitten when a cold, callous human abandons the pet.

ADOPTED BY KAY TOMBLESON!!

Georgie Porgie found his wonderful Forever Home with Kay and his new best friend, Smokey.  Life doesn't get much better than this!  Two big boys, abandoned to the outside without any survival skills, found each other after they found the best home in the world.  They are now safe, share lots of love, and have fun in the sun at the Jersey shore.

 2009 NO-KILL CONFERENCE
George Washington University Law School
Washington, DC

Georgie, Paws and Claws mascot and poster kitty for the Circle of Compassion for Animals, eased onto the screen as Nathan Winograd delivered the Keynote address at the 2009 No-Kill Conference at George Washington University Law School in Washington DC.  Jean Smith, founder and administrator of the organization, with board members Kay Tombleson, Gail Bancroft, and Madelyn Filipski registered surprise to see the crumpled ear guy even though they were supporters of the event.  Georgie had been on billboards in New Jersey and on the pages of Mother Jones magazine.  Now here he was in Washington, a little rescued cat, a part of the historic event.

“If every animal shelter in the United States embraced the No-Kill philosophy and the programs and services that make it a reality, we would save nearly four million dogs and cats who are scheduled to die in shelters this year. It is not an impossible dream,” said Winograd.

Georgie echoed that sentiment from the day he was saved from the mean streets and became the poster kitty for the “Circle of Compassion for Animals”.

He is gone now, but his spirit and message will live forever.

Rescued 9/17/04.  Lived the good life with Kay Tombleson 11/4/04 - 8/6/09.

PENNY HAS FOUND THE SAFE ENVIRONMENT SHE NEEDS

From her bio: "Lets get this girl a great home that will care for her!

"She is so outgoing, loving, and just needs a calm and environmentally clean home!

"Penny is looking for an extra special home, most likely one with a sense of environmental purity, because we believe she may have allergies or an auto-immune condition that causes her to loss her hair. She does not usually cause herself much trauma beyond the hair loss, though occasionally she scratches at her skin irritating it. This appears to be partially helped by treating her with antihistamines and steroids, but she does not get full resolution. A true resolution may not be possible, and would involve environmental changes, a food trial, and potentially allergy testing at a dermatologist. Her need for medication may be constant or may wax and wane with severity of clinical signs. She appears to be fairly comfortable in our shelter, but we are alleviating most of her discomfort with medications. We are hopeful that her condition could be dramatically improved once she is adopted into that special home."

Penny has found her special person, who can give her the environment she needs, and she has been adopted!

LITTLE JOHNNY CAME IN FROM THE COLD

Howdy! ,

I'm Lame Little Johnny, a ten week old precious male kitten, who desperately needs a helping paw!

When I was younger, my front left leg was badly injured. I was shunned by my mom and siblings and was left to fend for myself. I dragged myself around for several weeks, starving, weak, and full of fleas and worms!  Finally, a nice gentleman found me and called Delaware Valley Veterinary Hospital, who told him to call animal rescue, also a client of Del Val. I was examined by Dr. John Vinciguerra.  He told my rescue mom that my leg had to be amputated!  However, before I can be operated on, I must put on some weight and get stronger.  Dr. Steve Milden and Dr. John Vinciguerra of Delaware Valley Veterinary Hospital will be doing my surgery.  My rescue mom says they are the BEST and that they will take great care of me!

After I heal, I will need a very special loving home.

Thank you and please say a prayer for me.

Love,
Little Johnny

UPDATE: Little Johnny is recovering nicely from his surgery.  He is running and playing on his three good legs.  Little Johnny sends his love to all the caring people who helped him through his ordeal.

UPDATE: Little Johnny has been adopted by his foster parents who could not bear to part with him.  He is now enjoying life in his permanent Forever Home.  Many thanks to this wonderful mother and daughter duo for all they have done on behalf of homeless animals.

REGGIE HAS A LOVING HOME THANKS TO MANY PEOPLE WORKING TOGETHER

Reginald ("Reggie"), an adult male Balinese, found himself homeless when his family moved and left him to fend for himself.

Sometimes it takes a partnership working in concert to save a kitty. In the case of "Reggie", five concerned partners worked together to rescue, rehabilitate, and place him in a loving home, from 1) the wonderful couple who bothered to get involved and who took him off the street; 2) to the kind veterinarians who neutered him and made him medically sound; 3) to the rescue group who housed him and found him a permanent loving home; 4) to the family who made him a welcomed member of their family; 5) to Paws and Claws who brought some PARTNERS IN PREVENTION NOT DESTRUCTION together for this happy ending.

"REGGIE" HAS BEEN ADOPTED AND IS VERY HAPPY LIVING WITH HIS NEW FELINE SIBLINGS!!

LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE NOW HAS MANY HAPPY TOMORROWS

ADOPTED BY TAD!!!

Little Orphan Annie was apparently left behind when her family moved. She is a sweet and pretty girl, but did not do very well living outside.

Starving for nourishment and love, and suffering from a bleeding gash on her side, she befriended a kind woman who called us.

Sadly, the vet discovered that Annie tested positive for Feline Leukemia. She may very well live a long life, or, she may eventually get ill with cancer. But Annie still has a lot of life to live.

Feline Leukemia is contagious to other cats, but not to humans or other animals.

MAMA PATCHES AND HER BABY, MIRACLE, HAVE A LOVING HOME TOGETHER

When Miracle was born, we were told that a deformity would make it impossible for him to walk. But after some therapy and TLC, he walks PURRFECTLY. His Mama, Patches, was rescued by an SPCA officer - she was pregnant and weighed less then 7 lbs. She was horribly neglected and since Miracle is her ONLY surviving kitten, we wanted to keep this family together.

Patches is a vocal cat who LOVES attention and petting. Miracle is a playful, spunky kitten that just leaves you laughing. They were adopted and remain happily together.

MAMA CAT KEEPS HER BABIES SAFE AND IS A FOSTER MOM TO OTHERS BEFORE GOING TO HER NEW HOME

The rescuer who found Phoenix says, "This mother cat and her litter of four newborns were put in a cardboard box and abandoned behind a local store. When I found her, she was standing in the box, guarding her babies. I took the family home. After a couple of days, someone brought an orphaned newborn to me and I asked this mama to adopt her, which she did immediately. She has also nursed a couple of other kittens who found their way to us through rescue. Phoenix is probably the most even tempered cat I have come in contact with through rescue. She has never jumped onto a piece of furniture. If I put her on the foot of the bed, she jumps off and sleeps on the floor. She gets along well with other cats. She is a young cat, probably not much more than a year old. She sometimes plays, but most of the time, is just happy sitting near anyone who will talk to her. She watched all of her babies find a home, one by one, and now it's her turn."

Phoenix has been adopted!

MR. HONEY NOW HAS THE LOVE-FILLED HOME HE WAS HOPING FOR

Mr. Honey was found in a busy parking lot. A kind woman saw him and decided to feed him, and was surprised when Mr. Honey walked right up to her and started purring.

Mr. Honey is a sweet, talkative, loving, front declawed boy that wants love, love and more love. His coat is a very soft, orangy color and he is just adorable.

Apparently, his previous owners tossed him out - defenseless without claws. He is about 5 years old.

His bio said, "Mr. Honey did test FIV+. This disease may NEVER affect him, but he should be in a home without other cats or with another FIV +.  Can YOU give him the secure forever home he needs??"

He has been adopted by Linet and the Chief!

ZOWIE HEARD THE VOICE OF HER GUARDIAN ANGEL

They don't come much sweeter than Zowie, who is one of a litter of five precious babies taken to a local vet to be euthanized. As she sat in the back of a large trap with her brothers and sisters - scared and shaking - she had no idea that the voice she heard would be the one that saved her life. It was that of the office manager calling an animal rescue volunteer - who stepped in just minutes before they would have all been killed.

Her bio said, "Zowie has adjusted nicely to living indoors. She was very scared and shy at first, as she had never been handled by anyone. Food seems to do the trick as it was scarce when she was living on her own outdoors. She now plays with her mice and loves the comfort of her own little bed. She loves being scratched on her back and is becoming more comfortable with being picked up. She does get along with other cats."

Thanks to that phone call, Zowie went on to find her forever home.

THE BRIAR PATCH BABIES HAVE ALL GONE TO THEIR NEW HOMES

Hello Everybody! We are the Briar Patch Babies! Can anyone help us out of a sticky situation? We desperately need a nice cozy indoor home. Our mom is very young, but took good care of us because a wonderful family took us in and allowed our mom to raise us after finding us in a briar patch. We are now 71/2 weeks old and have begun the search for our own human family to love us.

We thank you from the bottom of our fuzzy hearts!

Love, Briar, Thorn, Rose and Thistle

All of the Briar Patch Babies have been adopted.

SCARLET FOUND HER HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER BY GOING TO THE LIBRARY

We knew this little lady was very smart as well as very cute.

Wags visited the library to find just the right person to save her. When she saw the nice man, she knew immediately he was a kind person who would care about a tiny, helpless kitty like herself. She was right.

He took her home and gave her good food so she could build her strength for her visit to the kind vet. He then found just the right permanent home for this little sweetie and found it with the wonderful Ridge Family. Wags (now Scarlet) will even have a feline playmate in her new home.

SNOWBALL WANTED A NEW HOME SO BADLY, SHE COULD TASTE IT

Snowball's bio said, "Purchased from a breeder, after just 2 years with her "family" she was tossed out when they bought a new puppy.

"Snowball is a small girl with a lot of pretty white fluffy fur! She has amazing blue eyes and best of all...is 100% lap cat! She loves attention so much that after petting her for a few minutes, she will start to drool! Snowball is in foster care but is very sad, as she needs a home of her own.

"If you want to give snowball a home, please contact is ASAP, as this beauty won't last long."

As predicted, Snowball was adopted quickly, her new mom having been chosen from six excellent applicants!

Note from the new mom:  "Just wanted to let you know Snowball is the greatest friend I ever had. She was a little nervous yesterday but she ate and finally used her new litter box.  Today when I woke up she ran to the kitchen and meowed when I opened the can of cat food.  She ate it all up and I am glad to see she has adapted so quickly to my home.  She was sleeping with me before and then woke up and kissed me.  I love her and thank you for letting me adopt her.  I am calling the vet tomorrow to make an appointment for her check up.  Once I go I promise to let you know how she is.  I am sure she is fine.  Thanks again for letting me have a forever friend.  Cat Hugs, Michele"

LITTLE HEIDI IS FREE TO PLAY AND ENJOY LIFE IN HER NEW HOME

Little Heidi....she was SO SEVERELY matted her hair was literally stuck to her skin. Her ears were infected and the hair was so long over her eyes she was running into things. She had difficulty walking as the mats were wound around her legs which made it painful. Heidi was rescued by a good Samaritan in Camden City from an individual who had her living in their back yard! This good Samaritan called NJAFA to come and get little Heidi.

Now, freshly groomed and rid of the heavy matted hot hair, she is free to play, play, play! She is still a BABY and loves to play with her toys.

She has been "vetted" and is SO happy to have a foster family. She is with the same family that has Moo Moo and lots of dogs and children. Once her pretty white hair grows back she will be a little beauty.

Look at that face.... can you resist her?

Someone couldn't resist her; she's been adopted!

SUZY-Q NOW KNOWS WHAT LOVE IS

From her bio: "Suzy-Q, the chocolate hound mix sweetie, is looking for her very own loving family. This poor girl was dumped on a dark lonely back road. Suzy-Q was starved and obviously not loved. When we rescued her, she didn't even understand what it meant to be petted or what a doggie cookie was! My husband and I have put a lot of love and time in to socialize Suzy-Q. She is now a happy, silly, bouncing pup who loves to be loved. Suzy-Q loves dogs, cats, puppies, kids and anyone who will give her attention! She is totally vetted and is house and crate trained. A fenced yard (at least five feet high) is needed as she loves to hop, skip, run and jump like a kangaroo. We have never had a dog that runs and jumps in a complete circle before she lands! Our friends come over just to see her do this trick and laugh at her silliness. Suzy-Q is thought to be around two years old, maybe a little younger. She weighs 45 lbs. and is done growing."

She has been adopted!

MOO MOO HAS MOOOVED TO HIS FOREVER HOME

From Moo Moo's bio: "Bedraggled and bewildered, he was sitting in a kill shelter frightened and alone. Matted, full of fleas, severely underweight and shaking, NJAFA grabbed him from the chaos. Now only two weeks after his rescue, he is freshly groomed, neutered, tested for heartworm and Lyme (negative) and received all his shots.

"Moo Moo (named because he does look like a little cow with his black and white coloring) is doing very well at his foster home with FIVE other dogs including a German Shepherd and three little toddlers. He will be housebroken soon and is getting crate trained.

"Moo has an exuberant personality and RUNS to the door to greet anyone who wants to give him some attention. He LOVES LOVES LOVES people and will make a wonderful companion. His skinny little legs look so cute going a mile a minute as he runs to greet you!"

He now has a forever home.
